Hemodialysis Technician

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

This course is designed to train Hemodialysis Technicians in the basic skills necessary to perform hemodialysis functions and to be efficient and effective healthcare team members. This comprehensive program is designed to provide the student with basic hemodialysis theory and practical and clinical experience and to work in a variety of environments. Classroom instruction will be held at  MISA Career center  (Hybrid) and the clinical portion will be held at local dialysis centers.

Upon course completion

Learn, understand and perform all duties of a Hemodialysis Technician. Hemodialysis Technicians work with people whose kidneys no longer work properly or at all. These technicians operate machines that remove wastes, and access fluid from patients’ blood while  delivering a  safe treatment.


Dialysis Technician  work under the supervision of physicians and nurses. Dialysis patients generally use the machine for about four hours, three times a week. The technicians prepare patients, monitor, adjust settings on the machine, and perform required procedures when dialysis is completed. Dialysis Technician help patients feel comfortable during the procedure and keep the machine in good working order.  Hemodialysis Technicians work in hospitals, free standing clinics, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, long term care facilities, private homes and for home healthcare agencies.


A Certifcate  will be awarded to those students who will successfully complete all required courses as per training program Satisfactory Academic Requirements and fulfill their financial obligation towards the MISA.  Graduates will be eligible to take National Certification Exams to become  Certified Hemodialysis  Technician/Technologist through BONENT.


ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  •  A High School Diploma, General Education Diploma, or High School Proficiency 
  • Complete a general physical exam, documentation of recent two-step TB skin test, proof of PPD, Tetanus/Diphtheria, Rubella/Measles vaccine, Hepatitis B vaccine. Students are responsible for all costs associated with meeting these physical requirements
  • Submit to a background check 
  • Complete enrollment agreement 

PROGRAM BASICS:

  • Duration 16 weeks  Clock hours 425
  • This program in on-ground format as well as in hybrid format in which students can take up to 45% of the courses using the online delivery method with a live instructor.
